1.) ISSUE 1 – Allows the legislature to call itself into session
In September, 2020, we filed a lawsuit against the corrupt Asa Hutchinson / Dr. Romero regime. (Recall that Romero is the corrupt, Mexican-trained former head of ADH.) The basis of our lawsuit was that the governor did not have the authority to rule the state as a dictator (shutdowns, mask mandates, school closings), that only the legislature could make laws. Asa repeatedly refused to call the legislature into session, leaving him as the state’s dictator and sole lawmaker. (They cannot currently call themselves into session.) The lawsuit was essentially settled by Act 403 of 2021, just days before we were to appear before the Arkansas Supreme Court. Act 403 severely limits the governor’s power to maintain a state of emergency. Issue 1 is a broader answer to the problem – it allows the legislature to convene if necessary, even if the governor refuses to call a special session.
I don’t know about you, but I find it much easier to speak with and lobby my state senator and state rep than I do the governor. (When is the last time Asa answered his own phone?) If you are a member of this group, you have certified your opposition to mandates, so you should be FOR Issue 1. The legislature needs the ability to call itself into session in a truly dire situation, such as the one we faced in 2020.
